Star Trek Online

I created a character template for my Romulan expatriate character in STO. The DOCX version would be useful for anyone who created a custom race and wants to record their settings. Feel free to host or distribute freely, though credit would be appreciated.

Romulan Names List

Here are screenshots I've collected from my experiences in the Star Trek Online open beta. All of these shots were taken from within the game. I'm impressed that the name I created for my ship (the U.S.S. Thorne) actually shows up on the hull! Click on the picture for a larger-sized version.

Here are the last of the shots from the STO beta. I'll archive this page once the real game starts. This will let you see what the various ships available to a Lt. Commander are, however.

To start, this was T'Vrel's promotion ceremony to Lt. Commander. It was pretty cool -- out in the public area of spacedock.

And here are the ships. First, the Escort class (this particular one is a Rapier class):

Here's the bridge, fore and aft. You can tell it is definitely a ship laid out for combat.

This is one of the Science vessels (Quasar class, if I remember right):

...and here's the bridge. The displays on the back are incredibly cool (and huge), and this is the only bridge arrangement I've seen that let's your first oficer sit beside you.

And last, but certainly not least, the majestic Cruiser class (the is the Excalibur class):

This is the Cruiser bridge. It's the only one that has essentially the ST:TNG layout (except for the couch by the captain):

And here are the older screenshots from my lieutenant days:

The U.S.S. Thorne appraches Spacedock.

The Thorne leaves Earth orbit to investigate the disappearance of a merchant ship.

The bridge of the Thorne, looking towards the rear. Note that your bridge is really more of a gathering place than a a place to actually fly the ship. Sitting in the center seat switches you to tactical view in space, as seen in the screenshots above. You spend about half your time in space, and half on planets and in starbases. Missions follow the "5-act structure" that episodes in the TV series follow. That's my first officer, Twelve (a liberated Borg), sitting at ops.

Captain T'Vrel studies readings at the Sciences Station. Vagh, my chief of security, is in the background.

Two views of the U.S.S. Thorne coming out refit at spacedock.

The U.S.S. Thorne leaves Earth orbit for a patrol mission.

Here are some updated shots from the bridge with the new UI. Note that you can now sit in the center seat! I also have a new chief engineer, a Trill. I fired my old one as he just didn't have the chops for a ship like the Thorne...

I also took some action shots during my last away team mission. No, I shouldn't be standing out in the middle of the corridor like that...
