Lightsaber Images

Here is my most recent lightsaber project: a replica of Obi-Wan Kenobi's lightsaber from Revenge of the Sith. Like my first saber, it uses the 2010 Hasbro Obi-Wan Kenobi lightsaber sound board. This model uses a royal blue Luxeon Rebel Star driven directly from the board (via a relay). Below is a picture of the hilt alongside the Master Replicas .45 scale hilt I used as my model.

Here is the hilt with a blade installed and lit:

And finally, the full blade in a darkened room. Unfortunately, the camera isn't able to capture what a beautiful blue this is. It isn't the white-blue that you see here, it actually is royal blue as the LED advertises. The color of the reflection of the blade on the dresser (left side) is close to the color, but imagine it extremely brightly lit. Since I'm direct driving this from the board (no resistor), I'm getting lots of light from it. I'm using a single 3.7V Trustfire lithium rechargeable battery. Unfortunately, it has to be removed from the hilt to be recharged, but it's the only way to fit the electronics in the available space.

Here is my first custom lightsaber. It uses a green Luxeon Rebel Star high-power LED powered by a 1000 mA buckpuck and the sound board from a 2010 Hasbro Obi-Wan Kenobi lightsaber. The blade is removable (as you can see) and is strong enough for stunts and dueling. The saber runs on four AAA rechargeables, and I've installed a recharge port in the base of the hilt. The colored parts that you see are powder coated in "copper vein".

You can't really tell from the pictures, but the blade is actually an emerald green in lowered lighting. There is also a bright "core" running down the center of the blade. The overall length of the hilt is 12.25"; the blade is 36" long. I had to do some serious "cram fu" to get everything inside a hilt this small, but the results were worth it!

Here is a close up of the lit blade in a darkened room (not dark, but curtains are closed). Again, the blade is actually more emerald green than it appears here.

Here is the full blade in the same conditions:

...and in full daylight. As you can see, the Rebel is less than impressive in full daylight. I don't know how that stacks up to other LEDs.

Originally, I had ordered the "copper vein" powder coating in "jollypop copper orange". Let me tell you, there's not much "copper" about it -- it's University of Tennessee orange! I managed to get most (but not all) of the powder coat off of the main body, but decided it wasn't worth even trying on the choke. To my surprise, however, the blade from the Hasbro Obi-Wan lightsaber fit perfectly in the choke -- an extrememly snug, well-mounted fit! I may eventually add light (but not sound) to this one as well.
